How long does causticum take to work

It is used as a remedy for chronic disease, wound healing including second- and third-degree burns , 1 and to increase energy levels as demonstrated in ten provings by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann. Causticum is a remedy that is quite complicated to produce, and is a mystery to many homeopaths to this day. It is made from Slake Lime or calcium sulphate and potassium hydroxide, and in the marble state, is insoluble in water.

When it is heated there is escape of the marble causing the acid to be formed and escaped as a gas. This is how Causticum is formed in its natural state.

Calcium Oxide CaO is alkaline, and can be very harsh to the skin, causing burns and irritation due to its corrosiveness. It is also flammable under the right conditions. Some of the characteristics of the essence of Causticum include sensitivity, anger, fear, grief, compulsiveness, and intense focus human injustices. A typical individual for which this remedy would apply may feel as though others are using them as a pawn for their own cause. This can make the individual very angry, responding by supporting a cause for injustice.

They desperately want to make a change and may even become viewed as a radical, who can be destructive both to themselves and to others around them. They may even hold a perspective that their cause is one that they would give their life for.

One needing this remedy may typically become angered if challenged, since they connect emotionally and are very empathetic with others, especially those that cannot stand up and fight for themselves. They are often freedom fighters, social activists, journalists, lawyers, freedom writers, and environmentalists, and, as such, may have complete disregard for authority figures. The results can be disastrous manifestations of physical symptoms, such as development of disease, neurological issues, and arthritis.

Other, more peculiar symptoms of a potential need for the Causticum remedy include pains or discomfort that vary with temperature or elevation fluctuations.

All three have a tired, sore, bruised sensation all over the body, and all have soreness in the chest when coughing, but if involuntary micturition is present Causticum wins. Now upon the back and extremities we have -stiffness and pain in neck and throat, muscles feel as if bound, could scarce move the head.

Painful stiffness of the back and sacrum, especially on rising from a chair. Paralysis of either or both lower and upper extremities. Dull drawing pain in hands and arms. Drawing and tearing in thighs and legs, knees and feet, worse in open air and better in bed. Weakness and trembling of the limbs. Rheumatic and arthritic inflammations with contractions of the flexors and stiffness of the joints. All these, and many more symptoms, show what a useful remedy this must be in its general action on the back and extremities, but right here I wish to say that if I were to select the three remedies to the exclusion of all others for the treatment of chronic rheumatism and paralysis Causticum, Rhus tox.

These three remedies studied in their correspondence and relation to each other will more than repay the careful student, and Causticum holds well its own in the comparison. You will remember that I have before alluded to the resemblances of Causticum and Sulphur , and may continue to do so further on. I wish here, although constitutionally opposed to making too much of complementaries and incompatibles so-called , to state that there are no two remedies that are oftener indicated after each other, and work as well when so indicated, than these two.

They are often paroxysmal. This is often found in neuralgia of the face. Then again I wish to call particular attention to the sensation of soreness or rawness. This is found in scalp, throat, larynx and trachea, chest, rectum, anus, urethra and eruptions. We observe that the sensation of soreness is not like that of Arnica , which is a soreness as if bruised and mostly muscular, nor of Rhus toxicodendron , which is an aching soreness as if sprained and oftenest found in the tendons and sheaths of muscles, or areolar tissues; but it is a soreness mostly, if not altogether, of mucous surfaces as if the parts were raw.

This is important and a very reliable sensation. Then again we have in Causticum much burning. These burnings are found almost everywhere, and in this we again see its resemblance to Sulphur. Now let it be remembered that the burnings of Sulphur are associated with itching , those of Apis mellifica with stinging, and those of Causticum with soreness.

So we must always learn to differentiate, because it is only by so doing that we can select the one remedy out of a class, and sometimes a large class, having the same or similar symptoms. The drawing pains that in many cases result in forcing out of shape the extremities so as to cause that terrible affliction known as arthritis deformans are found as prominently under Causticum as under any other remedy, and it is one of the most useful agents for the relief or cure.

It is certainly one of the prominent remedies for affections arising from the suppression of itch or chronic skin troubles, like eczema. Not being able to relieve the case, he had become demoralized, and as the pain and suffering were very great he had resorted to anodynes, but with the usual result of making the patient worse, after the anodynes had worn out, than she was before. On looking over the case carefully, I found in addition to the emaciated and greatly debilitated condition of the patient, after so long suffering, that the pains came in paroxysms, that they were of a drawing nature, and that she had suffered from eczema for years, at different times, before this pain appeared.

Sulphur had been given, but without relief. While perspiring. New moon. Getting wet. Entering a warm room from the open air. Better: Sips of cold drinks.

Warmth of bed. Gentle motion. Warm air. Damp, wet weather. If you buy through links on this page, we may earn a small commission.

Causticum, or potassium hydrate, is a remedy used in homeopathy for a broad spectrum of conditions. It is available in several forms, including tablets, liquid, and cream.

Homeopathy is a medical system developed in Germany more than years ago. The natural substances, in larger doses, are typically known to cause symptoms in healthy people, but can be used in very small doses to treat similar symptoms.

According to the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health , there is little evidence to support homeopathy as an effective treatment for any specific health condition. In homeopathy, causticum is considered a polycrest, or a broad-spectrum remedy with many uses in a wide variety of settings.

Clinical studies on homeopathic causticum use to treat specific conditions are quite limited. While there has not been much scientific research on the effects of causticum on arthritis, what little research has been done suggest that its anti-inflammatory properties on nerves, tendons and muscles could prove helpful with rheumatoid arthritis.

Also, a study of rats with induced arthritis concluded that rats treated with causticum may have had some pain reduction. Causticum is marketed to help treat children with bedwetting at night. In , researchers in India began recruiting for a clinical trial to assess the use of causticum in children with primary enuresis bed-wetting since infancy. However, those results have not been published in a peer-reviewed journal.
